Come and join us for four days high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado near Steamboat Springs at the beautiful Vista Verde Ranch. Last year's workshop was a great success with all participants coming home with beautiful images, amazing experiences, and lasting friendships. The snow did not disappoint, every day the flakes were softly falling covering the ranch in fresh snow daily.
The workshop is limited to 8 attendees. We are at this time collecting those who want to be on the reserve list.
Those who sign up first will get the first opportunities to book the workshop at the early bird rate and a choice of their accommodations.
You do not need to put down a deposit to be on the reserve list until May 2018, but we will go down the list of those on the reserve with first options to attend.
You Get To Decide
The workshop is a combination of scheduled photographic opportunities and fun ranch activities. To view photos from last years workshop you can see them on my blog post.
You can photograph the whole time or if you choose you can to do some of many fun activities the ranch offers each day. You may just want to relax and enjoy a good book by the fireplace. There will be no set schedules for you to keep (other than meal time) You get to choose how you want to experience being at this amazing ranch
Photography Workshop Opportunities Offered
Photographing Loose Horses Running in the Snow
Every morning the ranch runs the herd of 110 horses down to the corrals where you get a chance to photograph horses running loose in the snow. A sight you will not soon forget. After choosing the horses they are going to work with that day, they then run them back to the pasture. So you will have many opportunities to capture a great shot of horses running free in the snow.
Portrait sessions with Cowboys, Cowgirls, and Horses
We will also have an afternoon of photographing cowboys, cowgirls with horses and do some portrait work. In the rustic barn, out in the snow covered corrals, riding shots, and you can collaborate with each model setting up your unique vision for a portrait.
One evening we are offering a class on light painting. We will work in the heated barn loft and have several still life set-ups for you to practice and learn this skill. A tripod is required, but we will supply the pen lights for you to use. Light painting is a fun and creative method of using controlled light to make impactful and compelling still life images
iPhone Photography Mini Workshop
Our mobile phone is usually the camera we always have with us so why not use it to it's fullest capabilities? I will show you some very creative ways to use your iPhone alongside your regular camera so you can come home with a variety of unique imagery. I will also introduce you to some great apps for processing images and videos.
Fireside Photography Session
You can choose to join the other photographers in a fireside discussion on photography where we all share our experiences and knowledge with each other. It is amazing what you can learn just by discussing what we all are doing in our photography journey.

What Activities the Ranch Has to Offer
You will find a broad range of activities to participate in or to photograph during your stay.
There is cross country skiing, tubing, riding horses in the snow covered landscape, riding in the horse drawn sleigh or on the hay bob feeding the herd of horses. You may also attend a horsemanship lesson in the large heated indoor arena. The instructor is very knowledgeable in natural horsemanship methods. Highly recommend if you love to ride.
There are also addition activities of snowmobile tour through the majestic forest, two-hour dog sledding tour, or cross-country ski lessons. These activities require additional fees or going to other locations.
All of Your Meals
I guarantee you are going to love the food offered during your stay. The ranch has an amazing chef who has a real passion for food along with a staff that is genuinely frienly and helpful. I have to admit that the food alone is worth attending.
The ranch does accommodate special dietary needs please inform us if you have speical dietary restrictions on your final payment.
I have reserved three private rooms and two cabins. The private rooms are in the lodge and have one king size bed along with a private bath. The two cabins are just behind the lodge and tucked in the trees. Each cabin has two bedrooms, and each bedroom has a private bath
. So you will be sharing the cabin with one other person, but the cabins are plenty big enough to have your privacy space. Each of the cabins has an outdoor hot tub for your use.
You will be required to arrange your transportation to the ranch. There is a local airport called Hayden/Steamboat Regional Airport. You can make arrangements to get a ride to the ranch by letting me know you are flying to this airport. The ranch will also take you back to the airport.
You can stay for additional days beyond the workshop but we will have to know at sign up so we can reserve your dates.
